"Be Strong and Courageous" (Joshua 1)

Passage: Joshua 1
Service Type:

What do we do when God calls us to do things that are hard? What about the places of danger and outright suffering that he asks us to enter into? What if God calls us to serve him on the other side of the planet, in the midst of a culture we don’t understand and a language that we can’t speak? Or, what if he calls us to do something frighteningly mundane, like faithfully and patiently caring for a baby who refuses to sleep?

Joshua was also called to do exceedingly difficult things, and at the very beginning, when Yahweh first called him to step up, he did so by exhorting Joshua to be “strong and courageous.” What does Joshua 1 teach us about courage, that great Christian virtue, for our own lives?
