Sermon: Passing the Torch (Joshua 23)
As Joshua comes to the end of his life, he recognizes a deep need in the congregation of Israel: perseverance. It isn’t just that the people standing in front of him in Joshua 23 need to reach the finish line (although they do), but that he longs to see generation after generation of Israelites to come to follow faithfully after Yahweh all of the days of their lives.
Toward that end, Joshua preaches his penultimate message to Israel, and then he lays out a method for seeking generational perseverance which stood as a model that Jesus himself followed in his own ministry—and one that the church of Jesus Christ ought to follow today.
